- A little bit about me -
I was born and raised in Japan and went to Japanese schools all up through high school. I learned to speak English at home and Japanese at school. I grew up on YouTube and was obsessed with watching gaming videos. I wanted to make my own gameplay videos which is where I first learn how to edit. From there I realized I enjoyed editing and the creativity in making videos. I would hone my skills through other videos that I made. As I grew older I was drawn to the deeper impact a story could have on someone. Movies weren't just entertainment, they could carry powerful and personal messages. I took a class called Media Studies in High School where I found out "Film" is something you can actually study at college. Filmmaking was the perfect cross of creativity I loved and leaving an impact on people. I am now starting my senior year at Whitman College finishing my Major in Film and Media Studies.
- Why Myshoes? -
In Japanese there is no "th" sound. Because of this, my last name: Matthews, is pronounced more like: Mashews. From this the eye rolling pun of "I'm Mashews, but these are my shoes" was created by my dad. After years of hating the joke, I began to like it, and decided to make it my online brand and run with it.
Now it represents how everyone has their own perspective on the world, how everyone has their own unique vision, how everyone has a different story to tell. I want to share these stories that come from deep within us, to express ourselves in ways unknown to one another. That is what MyShoes is.
